FlexSim 2016 Update 2: UI Improvements and New Activities
FlexSim 2016 Update 2, the latest version of FlexSim’s flagship simulation modeling software, has been released and is now officially available worldwide.
This update contains a handful of key user interface improvements that will streamline and enhance the modeling experience. Let’s start with the all-new Quick Library, which provides fast access to objects as you construct a 3D model. Simply double-click on a blank space to quickly add an object. You can also connect an existing object to a blank space to add an object and complete the connection in one step. This is just one of many UI improvements you’ll find in Update 2—areas such as 3D object rotation, the Run Time menu, and Toolbox sorting also got some extra attention from FlexSim’s developers.
There are also some exciting new additions to FlexSim’s Process Flow tool. The Split, Synchronize, and Join activities add powerful new functionality for coordination. Why does this matter in a simulation model? Imagine a real-world system where unique or customized parts go into different directions before meeting up downstream for final assembly. You can now use the coordination activities to selectively synchronize several events, allowing you to properly model these complex systems with less time and effort than ever before.
Another major addition to the Process Flow tool is the “Assign Event Object To” feature, used when listening to events in your model. This tells you who (or what) fired the event, so you know what caused a particular part, widget, or entity to move along in the process. This has valuable applications when modeling complex production and material handling systems.
Other highlights in FlexSim 2016 Update 2 include interface improvements to the Presentation Builder and Animation Creator, a new date-based feature for Gantt charts, and updates to the automated guided vehicle (AGV) module.
