GIS Module for Supply Chain + Logistics
FlexSim’s free GIS module is a powerful new tool for modeling supply chains, inter-logistics, and any other transportation uses where travel time and distance are a factor.
The module is centered around the new Map object, which can be dragged from the library right into the 3D View. Once you select the Map by left-clicking with the mouse, you can click and drag to pan the map’s position and use the mouse wheel to zoom into a particular location. The other main objects are Points, which can be dragged from the library and onto the map. Points can use one of our pre-installed shapes to enhance the visuals on the map, or you can change it to any custom 3D shape in the Point’s properties. Task Executers can be connected to any of these points to visualize the route, and we also have some new pre-installed shapes you can use for these vehicles.
The GIS module can handle three types of routes. The two most common will be Driving Roads and Flight Path. The Driving Roads route type downloads the roads information from the routing server, which is already pre-configured for your convenience. Your trucks or other road vehicles will take the shortest route to get between the two connected points.
The Flight Path is used to connect two airports, and you can adjust the Air Route Calculations, including average speed and costing, in the GIS Navigator Properties.
